Abstract

• In March 2018, all CPI cities in Sumatera Utara experienced inflation, namely Sibolga of 0.79 percent; Cultivation of 0.17 percent; Medan by 0.61 percent; and Padangsidimpuan of 0.33 percent. Thus, North Sumatra in March 2018 experienced inflation of 0.56 percent.
• March 2017, inflation inflation of 0.61 percent or an increase in index from 136.82 in February 2018 to 137.66 in March 2018. Inflation was due to an increase in prices as indicated by the rise in the index of five expenditure groups, foodstuffs of 1.89 percent; housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel by 0.12 percent; clothing group by 0.57 percent; health group by 0.86 percent; and transportation, communication and financial services group by 0.29 percent. In the meantime, the decreasing index of the food, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco group by 0.04 percent and the education, recreation and sports group by 0.01 percent.
• Major commodities contributed to inflation during March 2018 in Medan, including red peppers, garlic, gasoline, onions, bananas, cars and dresses.
• Out of 23 CPI cities in Sumatera Island 19 cities experienced inflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tembilahan at 1.38 percent with CPI of 137.75 and the lowest was in Dumai at 0.05 percent with CPI of 134.05.
