In October 2022, there was a combined year on year (yoy) inflation of five cities in North Sumatra (Sibolga, Pematangsiantar, Medan, Padangsidimpuan, and Gunungsitoli) of 5.66 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 111.25. Of the five CPI cities in North Sumatra, the highest yoy inflation occurred in Padangsidimpuan at 6.85 percent with a CPI of 115.22 and the lowest was in Medan at 5.56 percent with a CPI of 110.82.
Inflation occurred due to an increase in prices as indicated by an increase in the entire price index of the expenditure group, namely the food, beverage and tobacco group by 5.14 percent; clothing and footwear group by 5.44 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel groups of 1.86; household equipment, equipment, and routine maintenance group by 5.85 percent; health group by 1.80 percent; transportation group by 20.12 percent; information, communication, and financial services group by 0.19 percent; recreation, sports, and culture group by 7.16 percent; education group by 0.55 percent; food and beverage/restaurant supply group by 4.48 percent; and the personal care and other services group by 7.79 percent.
The main commodities contributing to yoy inflation in October 2022 include gasoline, air transportation, rice, urban transportation, filtered kretek cigarettes, dencis fish and shallots.
The month-to-month (mtm) inflation rate in October 2022 recorded a deflation of 0.51 percent and the year-to-date (ytd) inflation rate in October 2022 at 4.69 percent.
